Practice Areas:
Mr. Olivas' practice focuses on the defense of tort, employment and civil rights claims. He has also defended government entities and businesses in a variety of premises liability matters. Mr. Olivas' expertise in these matters ranges from obtaining dismissal in suits alleging "inherently dangerous conditions," to trying such matters, and prosecuting and defending appeals.
The majority of Mr. Olivas' practice involves defending employers in the gamut of employment litigation, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, NMHRA and other civil rights matters. Mr. Olivas teaches employment law seminars several times a year and is Board certified as a specialist in employment law. Mr. Olivas currently serves as the chair of the City of Albuquerque's Personnel Board.
He practices extensively in federal and state courts throughout New Mexico, as well as before administrative tribunals. Mr. Olivas has also handled appeals for clients in the Tenth Circuit, the Federal Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, as well as in the New Mexico Appellate Courts.
